Oxytocin (pituitary posterior lobe extract) is a hormone, influencing sensibilized uterine musculature in the late stage of pregnancy, during and a few days after parturition.

Composition:

Each ml contains 10 i.u. synthetic oxytocin.

Indications:

Oxytocin (pituitary posterior lobe extract) is a hormone, influencing sensibilized uterine musculature in the late stage of pregnancy, during and a few days after parturition.

It is used for speeding expulsion of the foetus(‑es), and after parturition it promotes the expulsion of the placenta and the involution of the uterus. Owing to it’s effect on myoepithelial cells around the alveoli of the udder, it stimulates and increases the secretion of milk.

Indicated for weak pains in the course of delivery, puerperal atonia of the uterus, retention of the placenta, post partum hemmorrhage, prolapse of the uterus and post partum agalactia.

Contra‑Indications:

Incomplete cervical dilatation, disposition of the foetus; too big foetus.

Side-effects:

Short vasodilatation. decreased blood pressure and/or hyperstimulation of the uterus if used at high doses, and sometimes anaphylactic reactions may occur

(Antidote: adrenaline 1 : 1.000).

Dosage and Administration:

Administer intramuscularly, subcutaneously or by slow intravenous injection. For intravenous injection take half of the intramuscular dose, diluted 1 : 10 in isotonic saline (0.9 %).

WARNING: Do not use needles and syringes sterilized with alcohol

Storage: Keep closed in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight and safe from children.
